Seeing America By Rail- Day 8

Morning from my hotel room window!

This day was pretty much entirely spent in Chicago. I stayed in my hotel room being a lazy bum until check-out time at noon, and then took a taxi back to...

... Union Station and just hung out there until my 6:40 train to D.C. Mostly I did a lot of walking around and exploring, and then ended up having a lot of problems transferring my ticket (think walking back and forth between the ticket counter and Passenger Services roughly ten million times, while dealing with long lines and a cell phone that wasn't getting a signal in the station for some reason). Attempts to make plans with [livejournal.com profile] devotedsister, [livejournal.com profile] jeannette (again), and/or [livejournal.com profile] bluespikey were made, but they unfortunately fell through due to transportation issues, my ticket problems taking up a lot of time, and their general business. The aforementioned cell phone communication problems got in the way, too; I ended up having to text my mom and ask her to call [livejournal.com profile] bluespikey and explain why I couldn't return her calls!

The station was really nice, though.

They were setting up for some kind of event in here. I'm not sure what it was, but we weren't allowed to go in.

The Metropolitan Lounge, for sleeper car passengers. It was really nice, though I didn't spend too much time in there. I could check my bag and wander around the station without toting it everywhere though, which was very convenient.

Aaaaaand then we were off to Washington.
