Okay guys, prepare for a LONG ENTRY. Urgh.
I've totes done some scheduling advising (heh)- Jenny has Sra. Schaeffer (and her constant maniacal grin), Mrs. Y (yeah, good luck with that), but she also has Mr. Garman (and so do Marina and Ayera, eeee!). Mr. F's replacement is apparently called Mr. Canjello, and if people don't start calling him Mr. Canned Jell-O, I think I will cry. Margot had Mrs. Best, but was advised to switch out (by a guidance counselor- ha! even they know of "Mrs. Worst's" reputation), so now she's with Phetteplace, which is obviously the best teacher switch anyone could make ever.
I haven't talked to any non-freshmen (well, non-sophomores now, I guess... wow, that's crazy) about it, though, but they're more likely to be familiar with the teachers, so...
XD And I remember last year spending like half an hour on the phone with Margot and Sonja, giving them the scoop on which teachers' classes they'd want to switch out of, and which ones they'd want to stick with. Not doing that this year, though, because I don't really know many incoming freshies in this district.
... I seriously want to go ahead with my plan to make Quizilla quizzes to match people up with their ideal ORHS teachers. Seriously. I could password protect it and give the links out to people and everything. It would be amazing. Wouldn't YOU want to know what you're getting into before you actually get into it?
But yeah, just in general... it's crazy. No more high school. I mean, there are definitely good things that come with that, but since I'm one of those weirdos who absolutely LOVES school and had a blast during the past four years... yeah. I think a lot of that had to do with the school I went to- I don't care what people say, it really has a fabulous atmosphere, for the most part.
*steals Cinna's list idea*
- The general teacher/student relationships (NO, not that kind)- hell, just the teachers in general, especially Zottoli, Garman, Madame, Phetteplace, and Mrs. Raiford.
- Band. Every year there's been a hilarious group (my freshman and senior years were the best, with junior year as a close second and sophomore year still being completely awesome), and after a while, playing the oboe part wasn't *that* bad (especially considering the graffiti and hangman games decorating most of my parts).
- Spirit Weeks. Come on, they were awesome. Class colors pretty much pwned ever year (t-shirt scandal aside), and once you got past the relatively few people who acted like jerks and took the class competition way too seriously, it was all in good fun.
- Classes. Seriously, you hear everyone saying how college is so much better because you get to pick all your own classes? We got to pick them in high school. Aw, yeah.
- Just the whole school environment. I know, I know, it's high school- we had lots of drama, some nasty girl cliquey things, etc. (though from what I've heard, the middle school was ten billion times worse), but overall- at least from what I saw- it was by far the best school I've been to in this respect, and I've been to a lot of schools (eight others besides ORHS, to be exact).
There's obviously tons more, but that's all I can think of off the top of my head right now.
Also, I have to say that I'm glad to be leaving *now*- as opposed to in, like, my sister's year, when graduation will be held in the gym (extra parents can sit in the auditorium, because there's nothing like WATCHING YOUR CHILD'S GRADUATION OVER CLOSED-CIRCUT TV), cores will be obsolete, and the entire administration will be run by Wotton, Wotton's puppet (Mrs. Rogers, who's actually pretty nice on her own), and whoever is hired to replace Mr. Evans.
... I've said this in a million other places, but I have to say it again: my birthday this year is going to be awesome. Why? Avatar finale (it's like the gods WANT me to throw a party) and the International Day of Femmeslash. YES. Oh yeah, and there's the small matter of me turning 18, but, you know. That's secondary. XD

Pfft, not as long as some of my essays.... I seriously want to go ahead with my plan to make Quizilla quizzes to match people up with their ideal ORHS teachers. Seriously. Whoaz, taking fandom stuff a bit far? :P
The general teacher/student relationships (NO, not that kind) ...
(A sign that you're in the fandom too long: when you read slashes as ships.)
- Spirit Weeks. Come on, they were awesome. Class colors pretty much pwned ever year (t-shirt scandal aside), and once you got past the relatively few people who acted like jerks and took the class competition way too seriously, it was all in good fun.
Maybe it's different for you, but I'm actually glad my school doesn't do as many as my elementary school did. :P
- Just the whole school environment. I know, I know, it's high school- we had lots of drama, some nasty girl cliquey things, etc.
Oh yeah... every high school is unique in this way. And this is probably what I'll remember when I leave high school.
(extra parents can sit in the auditorium, because there's nothing like WATCHING YOUR CHILD'S GRADUATION OVER CLOSED-CIRCUT TV)
(Reminds me of the time when we had a celebrity/alumna visit, so half the school was in the auditorium, and the other half [that I was in] that couldn't fit in the auditorium was forced into the gym to sit on mats and watch the presentation on CCTV.)

Birthdays are so overrated. :P I'm glad you (sorta) have the same opinion as me.
After all, eighteen... one year closer to old age.no subject

Your school seems way more fun than mine =[
And I probably think Gus comment up there is nearly about the same length XD

I'd think that even without the slash XD BUT I MEAN TEACHER, STUDENT AND RELATiONSHIP IN THE SAME SENTENCE?
Birthdays are overrated but whatevs. IDDY I'M SOOO THROWING YOU PARTY.
Gus will be the...Special Guest *winkwink*no subject
GUS you are the most pessimistic person ever. EVER. :Pno subject
OH REALLY YOU WILL? XD
He will be a very special guest. Yum.no subject
Actually, our graduation this year was on Friday the 13th... no one was killed/injured, though, so that was good. XD

Gus ALWAYS writes essay!comments. He's very devoted to our lives. ;)

Good point.
Gus will be the...Special Guest *winkwink*Wait, what makes me so special?no subject
We had monthly pep rallies. Which sucked. Unbelievably. The ones in high schools were less frequent, and actually less painful.
...I thought I softened it up. I usually go "Blah, birthdays, one year older, one year closer to death."Actually, one time my chem teacher pointed at the clock and said "You see that? Every second on that clock is another second closer to your death!" The whole class was "... o.O" and I was "Ah, he's just as pessimistic as me!"no subject
Hmmm... Gus + Chem Teacher = OTP?no subject
However, I must say I'm REALLY happy with my schedule: I've got Mr. Lord AND Mr. Hawley again (don't think I've ever laughed harder in my life during those classes), Got phettyplace (however you spell it), and got all the classes I wanted ('cept for piano, poo).
I PROMISE THIS YEAR THAT I WILL HAVE LOTSO FUN, AND LAUGH AND MAKE OTHER PEOPLE FEEL AWKWARD WHILE DOING SO. DO YOU APPROVE?
HAPPY BDAY. HAHA. U R OLD.

Oh, and Phetteplace is HILARIOUS- actually, some people hate him, but if you like funny (and quite possibly semi-insane) teachers, you'll really like him. :D
I VERY MUCH APPROVE OF THAT PLAN. Making other people feel awkward is one of the best parts of high school, TOTALLAY.
I AM SO OLD. :O But I'm still very immature, so maybe that makes up for it. XD

ooh you got to pick your classes in high school? awesome! well, we got to choose some...but only like, ap classes. >.> our school is also a small public school, which means we have a limited selection. -_-
i'm glad your birthday is going to be awesome!! i am jealous. mine is the day before college classes start. -_- fail.
btw sorry i didn't see this entry before!!! i was up state from june 28-july 6, and i guess all the lj community entries made this one hidden far within the depths of my f-list. x.X

Yeah, my high school was pretty small, too... I think we had about 750 kids total? Our class was 130 or so, and I'm pretty sure we were the smallest class in the school. We had a pretty good selection, but almost no AP/honors classes (I think there was AP French and Spanish- but you had to have reached level five to take those- AP Chem, AP Stats, and AP US History). I guess the closest you'd get to that here would be to take a class that was "recommended" for juniors/seniors as a sophomore, or something like that. But there really weren't too many of those; mostly the classes were mixed, with the exception of some of the freshman-only classes.
Oh, no problem about missing this one. :) I'm awful at checking other people's entries, so it doesn't bother me if people miss mine. XD

sorry for the rant XD i just really didn't like most of the freshmen this year- they were so loud and rude, and apparantly not very smart either. my thesis teacher, who is also a dean, said that she saw a freshmen girl using her phone and that when she told her "don't you know we have a no cell phone policy?" the girl said "so?" my teacher wasn't even going to take it away, she was just going to tell her to put it away (our school is pretty chill about cell phones- as long as you're not actually using it, they don't care if you have one) but since the girl was rude, she took it. akljsdlka.
and yeah, we didn't have many AP classes either.

And rants are fine- no, they're encouraged. XD
