Darn!  I used to leave near Cleveland, and now I'm too far south in Indiana.  No waves for me.  :(  Nevada will be the most desolate place you've ever been to, but the Reno area is a little more lively.  A little.

It sounds like such an amazing trip!  I hope it doesn't go by too fast!

I love desolate places maybe not to live in 24/7, though! I've been out west twice before (though mostly in the Arizona/New Mexico area) and it was awesome. Deserts... ♥

Same. Nine days to travel across the country and back is pretty fast. I have a feeling I'll be thinking about all that I'm missing when it's dark. XD

Yeah, I don't fault that.  Living in such a place 24/7 definitely isn't for everyone.  The Arizona/New Mexico area is very beautiful, and most parts of Nevada will make them look green and lush.  So if you love deserts, you'll get your fill on the way to California.  It's a very wide state at the top.

Trains are fast, so there's little that can be done about the speed.  Take in as much as you can and savor it.  It's too bad they couldn't stop when it's dark because of the scenery that'll be missed!

I'll have to take a lot of pictures to make up for it! :P
