Seeing America By Rail- Day 7

Oh hey, remember me? The last few days of my trip were pretty crazy and I didn't get a chance to post pictures or update, so I'm just doing it now... really, really late. Sorry about that.

By this time everything was starting to look more familiar/normal to me, because we were getting into the midwest again.

And like earlier days, there was a lot of flooding.

We were severely delayed, and as we got closer to Chicago it became apparent that I wasn't going to make my train to Washington that evening-- there was a bit of chaos and insanity because there were a lot of people missing connections, and they had Amtrak people dealing with us all trying to figure out what to do. Some people were put up in hotels for the night and others were put on another train (coach; there were no available sleepers) out that evening; I wanted to go for the first option because I didn't want to have to spend the night in a coach car, but I wasn't sure that they were going to let me. Overall, it involved a lot of waiting to talk to people and discussing options with Mom/Dad on the phone (Mom was kind of freaking out), but eventually I found out that Amtrak would pay for a hotel room for me after all, and I'd get a sleeper car on the next day's train to D.C.

They also paid for taxi fare to the hotel and gave us money for meals; it was pretty cool. I tried to take some pictures of the city at night while we were driving, but as you can see, they turned out kind of weirdly.

My room! It was pretty high up; 17th floor awwwww yeah.

The view from my room through a foggy window.
